In a property in the Riverside, California, area, police discovered an 87-year-old woman's body in a freezer early on Sunday morning, according to CBS Los Angeles.
According to CBS Los Angeles, the body was discovered at 9:35 a.m. after authorities received a phone call from out-of-state family members who were concerned about the woman because she had not been in touch with them in a lengthy period of time. According to CBS Los Angeles, when officers entered the house to check on the woman's welfare, they discovered her body in a freezer in the garage, where she had died.
The identity of the woman has not yet been revealed. According to CBS Los Angeles, she shared the house with her 64-year-old daughter. According to The Sacramento Bee, the officers spoke with the daughter before discovering the body on the property. According to KTLA 5, the daughter informed the police that her mother was not at home, and the investigators noted that the daughter's replies to their inquiries were inconsistent, prompting the authorities to conduct a home inspection.
The daughter was taken into custody for additional questioning but was later released, and as of Monday morning, she had not yet been arrested.
The cause of the woman's death is still unknown, and the investigation is ongoing at this time.
