Snowmobiler Makes A Tragic Discovery That Shakes This Small Town To Its Core

The sheriff’s office in the area of Rose Township in Michigan says three bodies were discovered alongside a remote road.

According to Ogemaw County Sheriff’s office, a snowmobiler found the bodies of Amanda Pomeroy, Douglas Dougherty, and their 8-month-old son, Jacob, outside of their pickup truck just before 4:30 Saturday morning.

Investigators say an autopsy examination conducted on Tuesday determined that the family’s deaths were not suspicious and no foul play was thought to have been involved.

Undersheriff Paul Frechette said in a press release, “Preliminary results indicate hypothermia and exposure to the winter elements as the preliminary cause of death, pending toxicology results and a final autopsy report,” and called the incident an “unfortunate tragedy.”

The family lived in the Bay City area and was reported missing on January 16. They were last seen by family while visiting in Ogemaw County.

Sheriff Brian Gilbert said the family was familiar with the area and had traveled the road before but it appeared their pickup had gotten stuck on a rock.

Friends and relatives have created a GoFundMe page to raise money for the family’s funeral expenses.

Dougherty’s sister said the victims were found outside of the pickup truck and were not appropriately dressed for the cold weather when they apparently got stuck while driving along a snowmobile track.

“I’ve lost a lot of people in my life but I don’t think I’ve ever felt loss like this before,” she said. “It’s just a completely empty feeling. Let alone losing one of them but to have lost all three of them.”
