Cuomo No Longer Has The Support Of His Fellow Democrats

There is little chance that Andrew Cuomo remains gainfully employed as the Governor of New York for much longer, despite his stern unwillingness to resign or retire this week.

Cuomo is facing numerous scandals currently, one stemming from his foolish decision to send COVID-19 patients to nursing homes early in the pandemic, and then the unthinkable ways in which he tried to bury the details of that travesty.

And while this would be enough to sink the career of just about anyone else in American politics, Cuomo has defied calls for his ouster.

Now, his troubles are compounding as a number of women have come forward to accuse him of sexual harassment. This development has some prominent Democrats turning on the Empire State Governor.

Chuck Schumer, Senate Majority Leader, had the following to say on MSNBC this week when asked about the latest, most egregious allegations against Cuomo:

Schumer responded, “Well, every one of these allegations is really serious, really troubling, and needs to be carefully, carefully looked at. I have always said that sexual harassment is just not tolerable in our society, and we know that. And so, I, early on, called for an independent investigation. I have a great deal of faith, Lawrence, in the attorney general of New York State. She will uncover everything. She will turn over every stone. She has subpoena power for both records and witnesses. And I am also confident that she will resist any outside interference, political or otherwise. I have faith in her.”

Cuomo’s accuser count is now up to half a dozen women, and include a number of horrid allegations of unwanted groping, lewd suggestions, and publicly humiliating comments.
