WATCH! Horrifying Freight Train Crashes Into Semi

In what authorities described as "a disastrous mess," a train derailed in Tennessee on Tuesday after crashing through a semi-truck carrying a large concrete beam. Two train employees were hurt.

The Norfolk Southern freight train was passing through Collegedale when the truck carrying a 134-foot concrete truss bridge beam was parked on the tracks, according to a statement from the Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management.

The Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department said the truck had been waiting for the light to turn green and was attempting to clear the tracks when the crossing arms were raised.

Hamilton County officials said the three locomotives and ten railroad cars derailed. Two Norfolk Southern Train employees were hospitalized with minor injuries. According to news sources, the truck driver was unharmed.

As the freight train's horn honks, the semi-truck can be seen on scene video attempting to move clear of the tracks.

The train is seen slamming through the beam, but the truck is unable to completely clear the tracks in time. Railcars pile up and slide off the tracks, leaving flames in their wake.

Some Hamilton County officials believed the accident could have been a lot worse.

"Collegedale has dodged a huge bullet," said the former chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board. "That is a tragic accident that could have taken many lives."

The collision blocked the crossing, and an investigation is ongoing. A team to remove hazardous materials like leaking diesel fuel from the locomotives was among the agencies that responded.
