Trump Campaign Director Explains How Biden Would "Kill The Recovery" Of Our Economy If Elected

The Biden campaign questioned the recovery of the economy amid the coronavirus pandemic and the Trump campaign fired back by criticizing how Biden handled the economy while he was vice president.

The communications director for the Trump campaign, Tim Murtaugh, defended the White House's efforts to turn the economy around for the United States during the public health crisis and cautioned voters that if Biden were to be elected he would "kill the recovery."

Murtaugh told Fox News that "It's going to be a clear choice" and reminded them that Biden promised to raise taxes and implement policies under the Green New Deal.

Murtaugh's statements come as the Biden campaign has seized on comments from some economists who referred to the economy's recovery as "K-shaped."

"Folks have to ask themselves: Is this recovery working for you?" Biden campaign senior adviser Symone Sanders said on "Fox News Sunday." "It is going well, going up for folks at the top, but for folks who are middle class or below, it is going down."

While a recent report from the Department of Labor found that the U.S. regained 1.4 million jobs in August, Sanders expressed doubt on whether the economy is really getting better for parts of the country, particularly low-income and middle-class families.

Sanders continued on to say that the recovery is not going well for working families and said that many small businesses are still closed. He said those who have gone back to work and don't have the option to work remotely are at a much higher risk of catching coronavirus.

When asked about the "K-shaped" recovery, Murtaugh said that working-class and middle-class Americans are not benefiting from the recovering economy. He said, "That's not the way we view and that's not the way 10.5 million Americans view it who have returned to work."

Murtaugh dismissed concerns that Trump is down in the polls by stating that public polling oversamples Democrats and adding that the campaign's internal polls show the president doing very well in key states.

In recent weeks the polls have shown the gap between Biden and Trump narrowing but a RealClearPolitics average of national polls have Biden only seven points ahead of Trump.
