A newly released video shows the moment a bird flew into a Navy jet conducting a training exercise, causing it to crash into a residential neighborhood in Texas, damaging at least one home. On Sept. 19, 2021, a U.S. Navy T-45C Goshawk jet trainer from Kingsville was going to land at the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth when a bird flew into the aircraft as it was descending.
The pilot can be heard on the video saying he’s got an emergency and he’s going to try to make it to a runway. But as the incident unfolds, he says that he’s not going to make it before crashing in Lake Worth.
Both pilots in the plane, a student and an instructor, ejected before the crash. One of their parachutes got caught in some power lines, while the other was found nearby.
No one was seriously hurt.
