President Trump Warns That Boycotting The Runoff Is Exactly What They Want You To Do

President Trump spoke out against boycotting Georgia’s two Senate runoff elections during his campaign’s ongoing legal battle of the state’s presidential election results.

Trump continues to claim that the 2020 election was a “total scam,” but is still urging his supporters to go out and vote on behalf of Georgia’s Republican Senate candidates, Senator Kelly Loeffler and Senator David Perdue. He also confirmed his upcoming travel plans to Georgia to support their campaigns.

After Politico reported on growing concerns among conservatives planning to boycott the runoffs due to claims of fraud, Trump told supporters to “ignore” the calls not to participate in the vote.

The president warned in a tweet that “we must get out and help David and Kelly… Otherwise we are playing right into the hands of some very sick people.”

The future of the Senate depends on the outcome o Georgia’s January 5th runoff votes. A win in both races would guarantee Democrats a 50/50 ties in Congress’ upper chamber, then Vice President-elect Kamala Harris would determine the tiebreaker.

Perdue is running against Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff and Loeffler will be fighting to retain her seat against Democratic challenger Raphael Warnock. After no candidate received over 50% of the vote in the general election both races were forced to proceed to runoffs.

Earlier this month Georgia certified the results for the presidential election following the completion of a full hand recount. The Trump campaign has harshly criticized Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger for how he handled the election after November 3rd.
