Chicago Customs Makes A SHOCKING Discovery In A Shipment From China

Since the coronavirus hit the United States face masks have been is short supply especially medical grade N95 masks used by hospitals. With these masks being in such high demand you can bet there is someone out there willing to exploit the situation to make a quick buck.

In Chicago, a shipment from China headed to New Jersey was intercepted by customs agents. When the agents opened the huge shipment they discovered 500,000 counterfeit N95 masks.

Officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Homeland Security Investigations seized the bulk shipment of fake respirator masks after they suspected them of being counterfeit. When the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention tested the mask the investigator’s suspicions were confirmed.

Shane Campbell, Custom Border Patrol’s Area Port Director in Chicago said, “Our CBP officers working with partners in HSI were able to stop these faulty masks from being sold under the guise of fully protecting Americans. These masks did not meet the safety standards outlined by the CDC, which puts the public at risk, jeopardizing the health and well being of everyone.”

The counterfeit respirators were said to have a domestic value of over $3 million and arrived from Shenzhen, China. CDC testing determined that of the 30 masks tested 10% of them “had a filter efficiency rating below 95%.”
