Officials Say Deadly Crash In Texas Was Caused By A Driverless Tesla

A horrifying and deadly vehicle accident occurred outside Houston, Texas where deputies on the scene believe it was a driverless Tesla on Autopilot that caused the incident killing the two people inside the vehicle and sparking a raging four-hour fire.

The fully-electric 2019 Tesla Model S was traveling through the Carlton Woods subdivision near The Woodlands around Houston before crashing into a tree at a high rate of speed around 11:25 p.m.

Authorities from the initial investigation believe the Tesla may have been running on Autopilot as one of the individuals was found in the passenger seat and the other in the back seat of the vehicle.

According to local news, one of the victim’s family members said that both of the men were just taking the car out for a spin and that the driver was seen in the driver’s seat before backing out of the driveway.

After the crash, the vehicle immediately burst into flames. Local firefighters worked for four engaging hours to put out the blaze. Being very underequipped to extinguish the battery fire required at least 32,000 gallons of water to finally put out.

Officials are still reportedly investigating whether the front passenger airbag deployed and whether the vehicle’s advanced driver-assistance system was enabled at the time of the crash and will conduct autopsies on the two men.
