Biden Makes Sorry Excuses For Why He Can’t Visit Ukraine During Europe Tour

During his tour to Europe, President Biden lamented that “they will not let me” cross the border into Ukraine during a briefing in Warsaw, Poland, amid Russia’s war on the country.

Biden claimed he was in Poland to observe the humanitarian catastrophe “firsthand” when he appeared with Polish President Andrzej Duda on Friday.

“Part of my disappointment is that I can’t see it first hand like I have in other places,” Biden said. “They will not let me, understandably, I guess, cross the border and take a look at what’s going on in Ukraine.”

Biden did not specify who he was talking to, but the president is unlikely to visit Ukraine citing security concerns.

Mateusz Moravetsky of Poland, Petr Fiala of the Czech Republic, and Janez Jansa of Slovenia met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal in Kyiv earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Biden thanked humanitarian aid workers for their efforts in helping with the “suffering that’s taking place” at their “doorstep.”

“You’re the ones at risk,” Biden said. “In some cases, your lives, and risking all, you know, to try to help, and the American people are proud to support your efforts.”

The White House announced this week that the US will accept up to 100,000 Ukrainians and others fleeing Russia’s invasion, and that fresh penalties will be imposed on Russian persons and companies.

The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights believes that 977 people have died and 1,594 have been injured since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began, but the total is likely far higher due to unverified deaths and injuries.
